FAQ & Common Refrigerator Problems
Defrost System Isn't Functioning
This problem is easy to spot, as usual, the back panel will begin to build up a frost pattern. Every few hours, fridges turn on a heater behind the back wall in the freezer to melt the frost build-up. When a refrigerator temperature sensor fails, the computer won’t know what to do or when to do it. Other issues like a main control board can cause a big amount of trouble and are a bit harder to diagnose and fix refrigerator.
Warm Refrigerator Side
Similar to the defrost problem, if the defrost system has failed, it can restrict airflow from the freezer compartment and block air from flowing over to the fridge compartment. When the temperature sensors fail, the unit’s motherboard sends low pulse voltage via the sensor and waits for the return signal. It’ll tell the computer what to do based on that data. The only way to diagnose this problem is to have an experienced fridge technician test the system to pinpoint the issue’s source.
Fridge Is Leaking Water
Exterior refrigerator water leaks come from different sources. Water couplings, water valves are a common failure item that can be simple fix. Internal leaks can be caused by water sources such as icemakers or a backed-up fridge defrost drain line.
Hot Dividing Wall
When clogged with pet fur or lint, refrigerator condensers can cause the condenser function to be hugely reduced. This result is the fridge not cooling down all the way. The hot Freon heat must be dissipated and brought down so the refrigerant can be condensed back into liquid form. The issue is usually a restriction within the airflow system – like pet hair on the condenser or condenser fan failure.
This type of issue is the most difficult to diagnose over the phone. However, the most common causes are moving parts such as a refrigerator evaporator fan motor or condenser fan motor. The noises can also come from a fridge ice maker or dispenser motor as well as the compressor.
